Biografie

Alexandru Raevschi (b. 1985, Chișinău) graduated with honors from the Academy of Arts in Bucharest in 2010, where he studied under renowned multimedia artist Ion Grigorescu. His early work focused on the documentation of post-Soviet architectural spaces, which evolved into more complex investigations of memory, technology, and cultural transformation.

Following his graduation, Raevschi participated in several international residencies, including the Berlin Art Institute (2018) and the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York (2019). These experiences profoundly influenced his approach, leading to a more experimental practice that combines traditional craftsmanship with digital technologies.

His work has been exhibited widely across Europe and featured in prestigious venues such as the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, Zachęta National Gallery in Warsaw, and the Contemporary Art Center in Vilnius. In 2021, he received the Young Artist Award from the Moldova Contemporary Art Foundation for his innovative approach to multimedia installation.

Raevschi's practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of cultural identity in the context of globalization and technological advancement. He frequently collaborates with local communities, incorporating their stories and memories into immersive installations that challenge viewers to reconsider their relationship with the past and future.

Currently based in Chișinău, Alexandru continues to develop new works while teaching at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts. He is also a founding member of the Contemporary Art Collective Moldova, an initiative dedicated to promoting experimental art practices in the region.
